Notes and Outline"Why All This Free Stuff?"

"Why all this stuff?" you might be wondering as you browse the Calvary Chapel of Hope website. And there is a lot of stuff or content here. On many sites you will find audio messages. Some sites charge you to purchase the audio message, some don't. But hardly any sites offer written notes to go along with the audio messages and even fewer offer such notes for free if they do offer written notes. So what gives, why all this free stuff?

First, we offer the audio and written teaching materials in the hope that God will use them in your life to edify and point you in the right direction spiritually. God's word is living and  active and powerful (Hebrews 4:12). Like Ezra, we hope to present God's word "distinctly" giving the proper "sense" of it, so that people can "understand" it and profit from it (Nehemiah 8:8). We want you to experience the full power and impact of God's word in your life. This is a work of the Spirit ultimately (John 14:26). It is the Spirit who breathed out words from the heart of God through numerous human writers onto the written pages of the Bible over centuries of history (His-story) and that is why they are powerful and life changing (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Bible, is the word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Our hope is that every believer becomes a workman of the word who is a skilled disciple and servant of the Lord using His word in this lost world to save the lost and make more disciples of those who are saved (2 Timothy 2:15; Ephesians 6:17).

In regard to the free offering of the materials on this site, the Bible says, "Freely you have received, freely give" (Matthew 10:8). We have received the teachings freely, we offer them to you freely at no charge. But freely here doesn't only apply to the cost or expense of what is given, it also refers to the nature of the materials. Let me explain.

On occasion a person will come up to me after a teaching and compliment me. This causes me to feel very awkward because I really can't take credit for something God has done. God, through the Spirit and His spiritual gifting, has worked in and through me to create the teaching. It's His work, not mine. The only part that is mine is that part where I miss-speak or make a mistake. Therefore, when someone compliments me, I usually point them to an Old Testament account of how God spoke to a hardheaded and hardhearted prophet named Balaam. When God spoke to this wayward prophet, He spoke to him through his beast of burden, a mule! The King James Version of the Bible puts it like this, "And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass . . ." That may seem a bit vulgar to you, but it conveys the miracle and work of God that takes place in teaching and communicating God's word. And if the Lord can speak through an "ass," He can speak through me. That's encouraging to me and it should be encouraging to you too. In light of that, I can take no glory or credit for these teachings. We offer these written teachings free of charge praying they will be used by God to save, edify and bless you in some way. (We do ask that you abide by the web page copyright guidelines and not use them to profit or benefit yourself financially.)

May you drink from the Father's well of blessing found in His word, that He provides freely by His grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, revealed, enabled and empowered by the Holy Spirit. "I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches." (Psalm 119:14). Rejoice in His word! God bless you.

Sincerely your servant always in Christ,

Pastor Claude
